"social media influence does not reflect real life...
Todd Van Hoosear and Chuck Tanowitz use the magic formula above to measure influence.
Important point: Todd reminds us that social media influence does not reflect real time influence.
The Four Rs of Influence In identifying and prioritizing reporters, bloggers, editors, analysts, etc., we measure influence through a proprietary mix of four primary factors, what we call The Four Rs:
Reach....

Social Media in Corporations: Pros & Cons of...

I had to save this somewhere. This is brilliant.
Over the past 5 years or so at City Year, I think we are evolving from left-to-right.
I would say that we are somewhere in between the Distributed and Centralized models and heading towards a more Coordinated approach. Thank you Jeremiah Owyang and Todd Defren for this information. It’s brilliant.

Vietnamese Toxic Soup
via vimeo.com
Have you eaten catfish lately? You better take a look at where it’s from and hope it is not from the Mekong River in Vietnam.
This river is the most polluted river in Vietnam. According to this video, in 2009, about 85 million pounds of catfish raised in the Mekong River water ended up at grocery stores and restaurants across the U.S. Only 2% of the catfish were tested by the...

via youtube.com
One of the things opponents of wind turbines might mention is that they are ugly or the obstruction of their view. These wind turbines are actually aesthetically pleasing. I think there are small versions of them on many front porches with wind chimes. These new wind turbines evidently produce energy, even without it being windy… interesting.

John Legend performed for City Year on May 18, 2010. The tribute performance by Legend was part of City Year’s In School & On Track National Leadership Summit.
He gave a brilliant performance and he shared some words of appreciation for City Year before he sang. Before and during the show, we were all tweeting and sending updates about how Mr. Legend was about to perform for City Year,...

thoughts on the word "social media"
I agree. The “social media” buzz word will have to change or die out. It’s only a matter of time before every web site on the web has some form of social media. I think the term has served a great purpose but at some point, the term itself limits what it is and what it is capable of.
When I think social media, I think merging human behavior with information and communication...

Social Impact Nonprofit Social Media Survey
via slideshare.net
Executive summary on slide 4 has some revealing stats. For me, the fact that 79% of nonprofit executives have not yet determined the true value of social media is really interesting, though not too surprising. 83% of nonprofit execs get that social media makes it easier for its supporters to organize, but they are not sure how and they are not sure why or how to measure it -...

What is Cities of Service?
Every day across our country, millions of Americans take time away from their work, their studies, and their families to give back to their communities. Millions more Americans would like to help solve local problems, but they are wondering: How can I get involved? Where can I make a difference? Cities of Service is a bi-partisan coalition of the mayors of large and small cities from across...
